GNPower Projects

GNPower’s pioneer project, GNPower Mariveles Coal Plant Ltd. Co. (“GMCP”), a 2 x 316MW coal-fired facility was successfully financed in January 2010 and declared commercially available in the market in 2013. It is the largest greenfield power project that was built in Luzon after the enactment of EPIRA in 2001. As one of the first advocates of competitive selection process and significance of forward contracts in support of putting up additional capacities to the grid, GMCP has successfully entered into power supply agreements with more than 20 distribution utilities as early as 2007. All agreements were duly-approved by the Energy Regulatory Commission after extensive public hearings and resulted to rate reduction. Its contestable customers also noted significant savings in operation costs upon switching.

In its effort to alleviate the prevalent power crisis experienced in the southern part of the country, GNPower has successfully developed GNPower Kauswagan Ltd. Co. (“GNPK”), a 4 x 138MW coal-fired plant in Kauswagan, Lanao Del Norte, Mindanao. Dubbed as the “best new entrant power plant in Mindanao offering sub-P5”, GNPK offers the lowest price among comparable suppliers as evidenced by its contracts with 21 electric cooperatives which were won after a large-scale  competitive bidding and have, likewise, obtained approvals from the Energy Regulatory Commission.

After the success of GMCP, GNPower also developed GNPower Dinginin Ltd. Co. (“GNPD”),. a 2 x 668MW supercritical coal-fired power plant to be located at Dinginin, Mariveles, Bataan. GNPD achieved its financial closing in December 2015 and started the construction of the first unit in September 2016. GNPD has also won several competitive selection processes by distribution utilities which were conducted individually or as an aggregation group – a testament of its competitive price offer. To date, GNPD, considered by far as the biggest coal-fired power plant to be built in the country, has contracts with 30 distribution utilities and 2 retail electricity suppliers.

In the early 2000, GNPower, thru its RE group has started its research and site exploration for the development of different renewable energy technologies. Currently, a number of its RE projects is in the advance stage of development with the core objective of providing additional capacity and improvement of livelihood at the countryside.
